As property managers, one of our biggest areas of frustration results from Security Deposit Disputes. Owners like to complain that tenants don’t absorb enough of the repair costs for items beyond normal wear and tear, and tenants complain that money from their deposit was wrongfully detained, even when the evidence is overwhelming in support of the owners costs.

A property management company in Pensacola Florida decided, after a long-term tenant moved with no notice and trashed the house, to shed a little humor on this issue. This tenant honestly stated the home was “better than when he moved in” and demanded that his full deposit be returned. Obviously, they disagreed with his viewpoint (and so did the owner!) Check out this house and let us know, do you think these items are defined as “normal wear and tear?”
